FAQs

What is lay counseling?

Lay counseling is short-term (5-7 sessions max) to provide support to navigate a specific issue, struggle or crisis. In addition, lay counseling seeks to improve relationship skills in which non-professionals or para-professionals try to help a person, couple or family deal effectively with the stressors of life. Lay counselors have been trained and are supervised, however they do not possess degrees in the counseling field.

What is professional counseling?

Professional counseling is the application of mental health, psychological, or human development principles, through cognitive, affective, behavioral or systematic intervention strategies, that address wellness, personal growth, or career development, as well as pathology. Professional counseling is helpful when there are chronic, legal and significant life issues occurring. Professional counselors have advanced degrees and are licensed; each having their own private practices and intake procedures.

What is coaching?

Coaching is an active partnership that promotes the process of forward thinking toward lifestyle change.
At its foundation, the coaching relationship imparts hope, confidence and personal growth while assisting clients in establishing realistic goals that are solution focused.  Clients are led to incorporate mindfulness, intentionality and accountability during coaching sessions. Coaches at our Center are credentialed with a national certification and/or a degree in coaching.

What is pastoral/biblical counseling?

Pastoral/biblical counseling is a unique type of psychotherapy that incorporates spiritual resources with psychological understanding for healing and growth. Founded on the strong belief that God speaks to and guides people during their life circumstances, pastoral counseling aims to help clients form a deeper understanding of how God is moving in their lives, by developing spiritual awareness and guidance on their journey through life. All pastoral counselors hold graduate degrees, however are not licensed through the state.

Are all the counselors Christians?

Yes, all counselors within our practice are Christians. However, you don’t have to be a Christian to utilize our services.

How much does counseling cost?

If your situation is deemed appropriate to see a lay or a staff pastoral counselor, the sessions are free. Most of  the professional counselors have insurances that they are able to bill through. If you do not have insurance, the session fees are $100 per session (beginning 2/1/2024) unless noted otherwise under the specific counselor profile.

Is my information confidential?

We hold confidentiality to a high standard. Your information will not be shared outside of your authorization. However, there are a few limits of confidentiality: if there is mention of child or elder abuse, and if there are claims of suicidal or homicidal behavior. Our utmost priority is to do no harm and ensure the safety of each person.

Is there financial assistance offered?

Our desire is to help families that do not have other resources for funding to get the services they need and we review this on a case by case basis. If you are a member or regular attender at Christ Community Church, there is financial assistance available. If you attend another local church and feel you need help in this way, we encourage you to reach out to your pastor.
